One Lucky Hen

This an email I received from PETA regarding abused chickens. Read on.

Lily and Nali

Lily came from a battery hen operation and was thrown out as though she were nothing more than a piece of trash because of her bad health. She had been left to die in a parking lot. Her beak had been cut off in an effort to prevent her from pecking at other chickens. She hardly had any feathers left—a result of the burning ammonia fumes that she had to breathe for her entire life.

Lily was nearly dead, but from the time that a PETA staffer first laid eyes on her, she seemingly sensed that she was going to have a second chance.

After getting immediate veterinary care, she was lovingly nursed back to health by her new human family, who even fed her by hand. She couldn't see for a week because her eyes had also been damaged, but her voice—like the voice of a purring cat—showed that she felt love and safety for the first time.

She was also comforted by other chickens at her new home. They gathered around her at night to keep her warm until her feathers grew in.

Lily learned to enjoy life. She would jump on top of one of her new companions, a rescued pig named Nali, to get a better view of the world. She would leap in the air to eat grapes off a vine. And she would sneak into the house and leave a gift of an egg in a recliner where her human companions sat.

Lily escaped her miserable fate and found love, peace, and safety. She passed away last year after being in her new home for four wonderful years.

We need your help to end cruel factory-farming practices so that chickens like Lily won't need to be rescued anymore.

Please make a donation to PETA today in memory of Lily and in defense of the billions of chickens who are not so fortunate.

My Dayang dive trip 08 June 2007 (after soooooo long!)

Looks like my laziness IS really getting to ultimate levels. I've been back for more than a week already and i'm only posting now!

Heres our dive bags. theres where we keep our dive euqipments (mask, snorkel, wetsuit, regulators, fins, weight belts and torch)

well. i forgot to take more photos! cuz i kept my camera in my bag and i'm just plain lazy to take more photos :D anyway we are diving with Mako sub-aquatics. Thats where i got certified as a NAUI basic and advance open water diver.
The trip is simple.
1. From Mako (~8pm) we left for the checkpoint to Malaysia in a mini bus. After clearing the forever crowded checkpoint we headed off for our 1st rest point at Kota Tinggi (no photos taken :b) to take a break.
2. Non-stop journey to Mersing ferry terminal. (thats where one can also take a ferry to Tioman) No photos, i'm sleeping throughout the ride. too dark to take photos ( theres no street lamps) going 100-120km/hr in a minibus is not something most Singaporeans experience too :D I'm used to it actually, if its not fast enough, I'll complaint :D (eta Mersing ~12am)
3. A final ~4 to 5 hrs boat ride to P. Dayang :O thats how far out Dayang is. This trip we did not get the boat with sleeping decks (double decked padded wooden beds). Its all seats so we gotta make do with it. got a bit sore neck aft that tho. :/
4. Alight from the boat at almost 5am (no watch and sleepy and lazy to ask) and we got our rooms and off for another round of sleep before our 1st dive at 9 am :D

Heres some underwater photos of the trip!

I'm not putting these photos in order of when its taken. I've added a watermark to prevent piracy. Hahahaha! These fishes, starfishes (yes, thats a BLUE starfish), and worms are quite common in Dayang waters.
Especially the clownfishes. you wont be finding Nemo. you'll be sick of Nemo! :D Clownfishes are quite inquisitive fishes (from my perspective) I wriggled my fingers in front of them and the sorta swim in between them, thinking they are anemone stingers! quite gullible these clowns :D
Also seen Sea feathers, Christmas tree worms and Feather worms.

There were many more fishes like 2 foot long Bumphead parrot fishes still in their teens (which sadly the pics didnt come out too well), Lionfishes hiding inside rocks to sleep just to come out at nite), Moray eels, Stingrays, Cleaner shrimps, whole seabed of Sea-cucumbers, Sea whips and lots of other schooling fishes which i cant be bothered to identify :b

Its quite a satisfying trip made after more than a year since my 1st visit to Dayang for my basic open water course.

Shall I take up a Master SCUBA diver course or a Rescue diver course next???

Anyone wanna learn diving? ;)

The Beng goes diving

The Mr Beng will be taking a break (as if he does not have enuff breaks :D hahaha!)
ok I'll be going diving at Pulau Dayang its a very small island right next to Pulau Aur. both islands are far out from peninsular Malaysia. further than Pulau Tioman.

P.Dayang is really very small and very remote. no telephone reception!!! hahaha! no one can disturb me loh :D you will need to take a 4-5 hours journey from the nearest town, Mersing. The boat will departs at 12midnight and arrive early in the morning on the island.
report image View of the island and the crystal clear waters

One can see the seabed and the fishes. more updates on the way. as I'll log the preparations and post when I'm back. TTFN!
